Knitting and crocheting!

Since my mum passed away, I started to learn how to knit again.  Last time I knitted was when I was pregnant with my son, made jackets and a hat.  I stopped as there was time to knit, as I was bringing up my son.  I had some yarn left over, and received some yarn from a friend so as to be able to practice doing things!

I bought Let's Knit when it first launched, so that was the start of my learning :-)
Also Simply Knitting magazine too, and these magazines got needles, yarn to play with!

What I learned how to do:

  • Mitred Squares or Domino (as some call this!)
  • Making buttonholes - did it with my mobile phone sock
  • Entralac pattern ======>>
  • Yarn forward! yay! I finally got it making lacy pattern
  • Knitting in the round, did this by making a beret, as first picked up stitches from a band and knit in the round.  Then I realised that's how to knit in the round as I couldn't figure how to join and start knit in the round. D'oh!
  • I started to find out more about crochet, and finally got something done, granny squares! :-)
I made a few things and gave some as presents.

I have some work in progress:

  • I bought a "Mr Darcey Original" Knit Kit - The Really Easy Fingerless Mitts and am knitting this.
  • doing granny squares - no definite aim yet!
  • I saw a pattern in the Knitty website of a Tentacular scarf and I'm practising this for when I have the right yarn to do the proper scarf in the colours I like!
Cheerio for now...
